ICYMI: High Desert Sauce Co Pulls Me Back In

Image
It's been a very long time since I posted and I have no good excuse why. I kept saying I'd get back into it and I just didn't. It took the good folks at High Desert Sauce Co to get me back in the game. I first heard about High Desert Sauce Co probably over a year ago when I would see suggested posts from them on Instagram. I was intrigued and followed their account but I didn't buy anything at the time. Fast forward to a few months ago and I saw them advertising incredible deals for a limited time, and I couldn't pass up the chance to get several sauces. I was not only impressed by the sauces, but by the friendly nature of owner Zac Perkins. Recently he released a new Black Label sauce called Tikk-Hot Masala. It is more expensive than his other sauces but to be fair, it's much more complex as well. I decided it was worth buying after my previous experiences with the company. To say I was not disappointed would be an understatement.   Ingredients: Rom

Naughty Norm's and Leviathan's Blood, Their Black Jalapeno Sauce

Image
Naughty Norm's Hot Sauce was a company I was not familiar with until quite recently but after trying their brand new sauce I think people are going to start taking notice. To quote their website, " Naughty Norm’s officially started on October 13th, 2018 with the very first batch of Watch Your Mouth sauce" but he got his love for hot sauce from his aunt as a young child.  Naught Norm's came across my Instagram feed a couple weeks ago and this sauce immediately caught my eye. I didn't even know that a black jalapeno, aka the kaboom pepper, was a thing. That pepper and the deep dark brown color of the sauce made me sit up and pay attention. I'm glad I did.  Let's get into this very eclectic list of ingredients: black jalapeno peppers, ghost peppers, Carolina reaper peppers, black garlic, carrots, ghost powder, reaper powder, ancho chili, black pepper, smoked ghost pepper sea salt, smoked paprika, onion powder, dark brown sugar, molasses, blue agav

One of the Best "Everyday" Sauces Around

I de cided  we should look at a sauce  w it h  a much more appro achable heat level. That brings us to a sauce from Rising Smoke SauceWorks fro m my friend Mike Palmatier out of the great state of North Carolina where they specialize in hot sauce and barbeque sauce. Mike believes "you should smoke 'em if you got 'em". As you probably guessed based on the name of the company, all of his sauces start with smoked peppers. Today we're looking at the Scovie Award winning Smoldering Embers. They classify this as a medium sauce on their scale. The bottle lists it as simply having "blistering heat".  Let's start with the ingredients: water, tomatoes,  vinegar, onion, smoked habanero pepper, roasted red pepper, garlic, salt, spices, and cayenne pepper. As you can see from the picture I've included, this sauce is bright red and you can see that it has texture and herbs/spices floating around in it. Its a thinner sauce but not watery by any stretch. The her

There's Nothing Common About Common Descent Provisions

Today we're talking about Common Descent Provisions, which to me is arguably the most underrated and underappreciated hot sauce company in the game today. This company was founded by my very good friend Chris Bengston of Kansas City, MO in 2018 and he's been churning out some of the wildest creations you can imagine ever since. They don't call him Chilly Wonka for nothing. He's got a sauce that uses orange soda instead of vinegar. You read that right. To celebrate the one year anniversary of its release, we're going to look at Bustahead Red Brain Strain Chili Pepper sauce today. As you can see below, the branding evokes very specific imagery. I've had almost every sauce CDP has made over the years, but this is my first time trying this one. I have to admit, I'm disappointed in myself for  waiti ng so long.  First, lets get into the ingredients: Ketchup (tomato c oncentrate, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, salt, spice, onion powder), water, carro

The First Ever Democratically Conceived Hot Sauce!

Today is a very exciting review from the folks at Karma Sauce Company. Today we are reviewing their brand new creation, Hole Mole! Gene Olczak has been and Karma Sauce Company have been one of the most respected names in the craft hot sauce industry since going into business since 2010. You can check out the rest of their very impressive lineup at http://www.karmasauce.com .      To quote the good people at Heat Hot Sauce Shop, the only place to buy this sauce, " The members of the "For The Love of Hot Sauce" Facebook group voted on Melissa Nieto's cocoa-centric flavor profile and chose the name suggested by Scott Michael. Then Gene Olczak of Karma Sauces worked the elected concept into a tribute to a traditional Mexican mole poblano, with a Finger Lakes twist."       The full list of ingredients is as follows: blackberry juice, habaneros, water, apple cider vinegar, panela sugar, plum concentrate, squash seed oil, 100% pure chocolate, fig concentra

Sh' That's Hot Angry Ginger!

Welcome to Charbanero's Chile Chat and the long awaited first official hot sauce review. I only really got into hot sauce and collecting hot sauce within the last 2 years when I joined a Facebook group called For The Love of Hot Sauce. The very first maker I got sauce from in this amazing group was from Sh' That's Hot, from Shane Christensen and Shelli Ulrich, so its only fitting that I start with one of their amazing products. But first, I should start with some background about the company.      They're a young Chicago based, veteran owned company "focused on providing unique, high quality, all-natural hot sauces". As it says on the bottles, they started by making sauces and salsas and home and everyone kept asking for more. My favorite thing about this company is that a portion of every sale goes to a charity called Hope for the Warriors. I can't do justice in describing what this great charity does within this blog so I encourage everyone to che
