Naughty Norm's and Leviathan's Blood, Their Black Jalapeno Sauce

Naughty Norm's Hot Sauce was a company I was not familiar with until quite recently but after trying their brand new sauce I think people are going to start taking notice. To quote their website, "Naughty Norm’s officially started on October 13th, 2018 with the very first batch of Watch Your Mouth sauce" but he got his love for hot sauce from his aunt as a young child.

Naught Norm's came across my Instagram feed a couple weeks ago and this sauce immediately caught my eye. I didn't even know that a black jalapeno, aka the kaboom pepper, was a thing. That pepper and the deep dark brown color of the sauce made me sit up and pay attention. I'm glad I did.

Let's get into this very eclectic list of ingredients: black jalapeno peppers, ghost peppers, Carolina reaper peppers, black garlic, carrots, ghost powder, reaper powder, ancho chili, black pepper, smoked ghost pepper sea salt, smoked paprika, onion powder, dark brown sugar, molasses, blue agave nectar, dark roast coffee, water, white vinegar, lemon juice.

This is one of the most unique sauces I've had in a long time. It really takes you on a journey. As I'm sure is no surprise, this is a very smoky and savory sauce. What surprised me though was that the ingredients like the carrot, sugar, and lemon juice add a touch of brightness and sweetness to it. It's still very much a savory sauce but the brightness that comes out of it brings it to a new level. The heat in this sauce is very delayed. I didn't detect any heat for a couple seconds. It was all in the back of the tongue for me. It's not a smooth sauce in regards to texture and because of how thin the sauce is, it definitely needs that texture. When I put the sauce on the spoon, I almost over poured not realizing just how thin it would be. I typically prefer my sauces to be a bit thicker, because I think most sauces this thin are vinegar forward and that's just not my thing. This sauce is packed full of flavor though and I honestly barely could taste the vinegar at all.

I could see using this sauce on some smoked chicken wings or really any smoked meat, especially red meats. And I think pretty much any hot sauce goes with pizza so this would probably be fantastic on a meat-lovers' pizza.

On my heat scale, this sauce is about a 3 out of 10. For someone who doesn't use hot sauce daily like I do, it would likely be more like a 6 for you.

For flavor, I have to give this a solid 8 out of 10. There's nothing else like it out there.

You can pick up this coming soon, or any of their wide variety of sauces now at http://naughtynorms.com
